This past week we learned about webquests. Webquests are an online tool that takes a student through a process to complete a task and experience higher level thinking. Each webquest has a process that clearly states what a student should be engaging in. With this process comes steps to a task and a rubric. I look forward to being able to use webquests because I found that they can be a very fun and useful way of learning. From the few webquests I viewed I found them to be very resourceful with information, which left me wanting to participate in the task that was assigned to the students.
I don't know if I'll be using webquests in my own personal life much, but when I'm a teacher I look forward to engaging my students in a higher level thinking process. I will most likely use this tool when teaching social studies. With social studies I feel as though I'll be able to give my students more of a real life experience if I turn the lessons into webquests and that way they can learn for the future and be able to apply the information to their own lives.
I also would like to use this tool because it will make it easier as a teacher to be able to have a process for my students to follow that is already laid out. It will make lesson planning easier because I will have a process to follow myself and my students wont be confused because all of the information will be listed in the webquest. I've realized that lesson planning wont always be easier, but when I have tool such as these I get a little more excited about being able to apply the curriculum into my future student's lives.
For my students I hope that they will be able to learn to work with webquests individually as well as in groups. If they are in groups they will be able to collaborate using google docs and gmail, and hopefully be able to come together and create a plan as a team to complete the task that I will require of them. Through this process they will learn how to use the internet and learn how to reflect on the information and process that they have gone through for further reference. I hope that webquests will teach my students to take projects one step at a time and learn to think outside of the box.
