This past week we learned all about google. One of the tools is called google docs. With this tool you can keep your store documents and share them with others to collaborate. This way they can give you feedback or edit the paper. It is an amazing tool to use when you are doing a group project or presentation, this way you can be working on the same thing and not have to be sitting next to each other. Another google tool I found to be beneficial in my life and hopefully for my students is google calendar. This calendar is an amazing way to organize my schedule and keep me on time and on task. I don't forget about events with this because I've set up the calendar to text my phone when an event or task is approaching.
Google Docs has already helped me with storing papers and presentations I've made for school. It's made it easier to be able to do group projects. I plan on using this tool during the education program to help me stay organized and help me with all the many group projects I'll be having during the program. I especially like it because of the revision history. Often times I'll accidentally delete papers or delete sections in my papers that I realize I needed. With the revision history I can just go back to the date I made it and there it will still be.
I've used google calendar now for a few months and found myself forgetting completely about an assignment that was due, but then I receive a text reminding me. This calendar in my life has helped me stay on track and benefitted me and my busy schedule.
In my classroom I plan on using Google Docs to help my students learn to work independently while working in groups. I will have my students turn in rough drafts to me through this tool. That way I can revise what they have done so far and give them feedback. This tool will also help my students be able to work on projects together when they run out of time in class. Most of the time the students wont be able to find time to meet together out of class, by having google docs they will still be able to do their group homework without direct contact. It will be very beneficial to my students as well with the fact that the program is constantly saving the document. That way if my students forget to click save they wont have to stress out because the program already did it for them.
I will also use Google Calendar in my classroom as a way to keep the parents updated with what is going on in the class. This way papers wont be lost and parents will always have access to see what their child's class has going on.
I'm excited about using both of these tools and look forward to being able to find different ways that it can make assignments and projects in the classroom easier. Communication with my students will be a lot easier and I will hopefully find parents pleased with the system.
I would suggest that in the future you utilize the What? So What? Now What? and Video labels for the different paragraphs. This will ensure that you receive full points each week.
