My dog Died

OMG little girl. You are 9 years old. Stop crying because you don't want to
be reading partners with who I paired you with.

PAUSE from the girl and then a GIANT SOB.
"MY dog really did die"
Ha WHAT? Why did I say that.
(Side note: Her dog probably died like 5 years ago)
She just makes a HUGE deal out of everything.

SO she continues reading and every 3 words she lets out a big
Sob. OMG... So I ask what's wrong.
She replies:
"YOU reminded me of my dead dog"
AH
Sometimes I am not perfect (OK always I'm not perfect)
and then things like that slip out.
HA it was a comical moment in my teaching career none the less.
WELL next time you try to comfort someone or calm them down
note to self: DO NOT USE THE DEAD DOG EXCUSE.
